Rajasthan Trip - Day 7-9 - Udaipur

Last stop on our Diwali trip was Udaipur. Udaipur is 300 kms south of Jodhpur and to get there one again meets mountain ranges as the desert characteristics slowly get fewer and fewer.

We arrived to Udaipur from Ranakpur where we saw the largest Jain temple in Rajasthan. Udaipur – or at least the old part of Udaipur – is beautifully placed bordering the lake Pichola. This provides for plenty opportunities for watching the sun set over the lake and behind the distant mountain range. It surely was magnificent scenery.

Naja keeping herself busy pouring fanta simultaneously with drinking. It was probably good the trip did not last longer otherwise Naja would have ended up with an orange tongue due to a heavy overdose of fanta.

In Udaipur we hadn’t succeeded in getting rooms at the same hotel, so we met up at Udaipur Miwas Palace where the Toftelund Larsen family had a very nice room. In the below picture we are all gathered on their rooftop terrace. The happy family enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Some sunset pictures taken from our hotel. The building in front was used by the locals when changing clothes before bathing.

At the rooftop restaurant there was a swing, where the children could play while watching a traditional puppet show. The puppet show was particular popular with Laura as she watched it over and over again.

As it was Diwali time, we decided to take a work in the evening, to have a look at the older part of Udaipur. During Diwali most families decorate their entry for the house with colored sand (some rumours say it is mixed with cow dumps). This is called "XX" and looks really beautiful.

Another example of a beautifully decorated patio. This was the patio below our hotel and we passed through it to reach our room at the top of the hotel.

At night time the view over lake Pichola was magnificent. The below picture shows the City Lake Palace. Besides being extraordinary beautiful it has been used as a set for the James Bond - "Octopussy" movie.

The mornings we enjoyed in the rooftop terasse where we relaxed, the children played games, made drawings while mom and dad relaxed with the view, a good book and coffee. An excellent way to relax and spend time together!
